Stephenson County Annual Spring Bird Count
On Saturday, May 10, 2025, Northwest Illinois Bird and Nature Alliance will again be participating in the annual Spring Bird Count.
We are responsible for Stephenson County. The count is conducted just like the Christmas Bird Count except that instead of a circle, the count area is the entire county. All 102 counties in Illinois are counted annually on the same day. The Illinois Natural History Survey coordinates the counts, and has been doing so for well over 50 years.
We are looking for volunteers who will be available on May 10 to participate in this important Citizen Science endeavor. If you live in the county, and would like to count birds at your feeder, we will welcome that data, or if you are available to be assigned a prime territory within Stephenson County, either way, please contact Carol Beatty, the Stephenson County Compiler, at [email protected]. It is a fun day, and it is great to see the wonderful birds in their breeding plumage!
